Abstract
An advocate at the Jammu & Kashmir High Court since 2009, Deepika Singh Rajawat was the first petitioner and lawyer who fought the Kathua rape and murder case . If bravery and courage had a face, it would be of Rajawat’s. She proved her boldness and determination by fighting multiple threats through the court proceedings. She specializes in Juvenile Justice, Women & Child Rights, Refugees Issues, etc. Rajawat bagged The Global Woman Achiever Award (2019) in the field of social justice as well as ‘Vogue Crusader of the Year’ (2018) , among others.
It was Deepika Singh Rajawat’s experience of working with CRY and other organisations that helped her combat the adversities while dealing with the case of Asifa from Kathua. Apart from being a full-time advocate, she heads Voice for Rights (NGO) which works for the protection of human rights in J&K. She was awarded Sonjoy Gosh Media Fellowship by Charkha Foundation in 2008 for her study on the child rights violations in the militancy infested areas of the Jammu province.
The first writ petitioner and lawyer of the Kathua rape and murder case.
